City of Harker Heights Memorial Day remembrance Walk 2024

Led by the Heart of Central Texas Service Unit 764  of the Girl Scouts of Central Texas, the city of Harker Heights held their annual Memorial Day Ceremony and remembrance walk at Carl Levin Park on a warm muggy Saturday morning. Harker Heights Mayor Michael Blomquist gave remarks and called for those in attendance to reflect and show respect for those military service members who have fallen. Tatiana Toribio sand the national anthem, ahead of the girls scouts presenting the city with a purple flower wreath and revealing an old tattered United States flag for retirement.  The Scouts, as well as community members like  Army Captain Christina Petersen, cut sections from the flag, tossing it into a fire as part of the flag retirement ceremony.

Once the flag was fully retired, Retired Master Sergeant Robert Whitney, Dressed in his 1968 Vietnam War fatigues, led a procession of people around Carl Levin Park culminating the event.
